Ursa Major (सप्तऋषि)

Ursa Major, also known as the Great Bear, is one of the most well-known constellations in the northern hemisphere. It is visible year-round and is easily recognizable by its distinctive shape, which resembles a bear.

There is another star slightly visible within it, known as "Arundhati". Arundhati and Vashishtha are married, and together form the Mizar double.

Vasishtha is accompanied by Arundhati, a faint companion star (Alcor/80 Ursa Majoris). The valid avatar's clan is supposed to be named after their ashvamedha.

The Mahabharata and Brihat Samhita offer the seven rishis' names as:

Maharishi Marichi (Alkaid)
Maharishi Vasistha
(Mizar)
Maharishi Angiras
(Alioth)
Maharishi Atri
(Megrez)
Maharishi Pulastya
(Phecda)
Maharishi Pulaha
(Merak)
Maharishi Kratu
(Dubhe)

These seven sages, also known as the mind-born sons of Lord Brahma, have played a significant role in guiding humanity and contributing to the foundation of Hinduism.
